Motorcycle Manufacturers History

For the last several years I have attempted to compile a list of manufacturers of Motorcycles, Motorized Bicycles, Motorwheels, Autocycles, Minimotos, Scooters, ect. and motorcycle engine builders that have made motorcycling what it is and was. From the first "Roper" steam motorcycle produced in 1867 to today.

This list should not be taken as complete (I believe there are literally thousands more) or totally accurate as there is a great deal of conflicting information on an enormous amount of them.

I will try to fill in the blanks when time allows me to research them.

Originally I started out not including the modern manufacturers that produce what I call "Harley Clones" but I soon realized that three quarters of the historic names on this list made frames and some of their own parts and assembled motorcycles using other makers engines.

Today's S&S engines are the J.A. Prestwich (J.A.P.) of yesteryear
